New pictures of Sandy
It's been awhile since I have posted pictures of Sandy! He is doing great and has gained all his weight back! Now he's ready for a home!! Unfortunately he does not meet the criteria for a rope horse which is what my husband does. I may have a home lined up for him sometime this month at a rescue in Orange County. This has been a great journey which as lead me to be apart of an Australian Cattle Dog (Queensland Heeler) Rescue. I will have my first foster dog sometime this week. At some point we will be starting up our own 501c3 non-profit organization for Cattle Dog Rescue. It'll be a great journey and benefiting so many unwanted cattle dogs...which there are a ton! The gear of this blog will probably shift to Cattle Dog rescue and finding forever homes for the dogs I foster!

Dixie needs a home!
I've pasted an e-mail that was forwarded to me by a friend. If anyone knows of a good home for Dixie please contact me. She really sounds like a great all around dog!
Dixie is a 3 1/2 year old female Border Collie/Queensland Herder mix,
approx. 45 pounds. She is spayed, and is up to date on all shots.
She is in excellent health. We have had Dixie for 3 years, and she is
extremely sweet and lovable, and is excellent with children (we got
her when my son was 9 and my daughter was 1). She is very smart and
LOVES to play tug with her rings and enjoys her rawhide chewies. She
has lots of energy and would do awesome with a family with children.
She is VERY social, and loves to go on walks and to the dog park - she
is very well behaved off leash! She loves riding in the car. She is
use to living with cats, and we have never had a problem with that, in
fact they even share an inside communal water bowl. We have never
had any problems with aggressive behavior, even when the kids got to
close to the food bowl. She is definitely not a barker or yapper.
Although she is outside during the day, she is use to sleeping inside
on her own little bed (although my son use to sneak her up on his bed
when he could). She would do well either on her own or with another
dog(s). The only reason we are looking for another home for her is
that our living situation has changed.

Bruce Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler [Mix]
URGENT!!! BRUCE HAS BEEN WITH US FOR A WHILE. HE IS AT THAT SORT OF HARD TO FIND A HOME FOR AGE OF ABOUT 4 1/2 MONTHS. PLEASE HELP BRUCE A.S.A.P. BRUCE IS A FUN LOVING AND VERY AFFECTIONATE PUPPY. HE SEEMS TO HAVE A LOVE FOR LIFE. HE IS NOT AT ALL HYPER, BUT HE IS PLAYFUL AND EXCESSIVELY AFFECTIONATE---TOO MANY KISSES. HIS TIME IS ALMOST UP. HIS NEED IS URGENT.

Update on Lockwood Valley horses
A few weeks ago I posted a link to an article regarding starving horse in Ventura County. Click here to be directed to that article.
I received an e-mail today with a link to the Ventura County Humane Society with information & pictures of 37 horses that were seized from that ranch. Click here to be directed to the Ventura County Humane Society webpage. The condition of the horses and their feet are terrible! I am in the process of getting a few farriers together to donate their services to care for these horses feet. It's the least I can do to try to help! I have a few other ideas to try to raise money and I will post info if/when that all works out! If anyone has any resources to help these horses please contact me! :)

Sandy~2 months after rescue
It's been 2 months since I rescued Sandy & Parris! Parris was adopted by some friends of ours and is doing wonderful! She is being ridden a lot and being pampered like she deserves!
Sandy has come a long way since we got him but still has a ways to go to be trust worthy. He still flinches easily if you make a fast move around him. He will let me catch him now and really enjoys to be loved on. He'll rest his head on my shoulder while I rub him down...it's very sweet. I have lunged him a couple of times which he picked up easily so I'm sure he's been lunged before. My husband also trimmed his feet which turned into quite the ordeal. I thought for sure either my husband or Sandy was going to end up hurt! He gave Chris his first foot without much of a fight and I thought "ok this isn't going to be so bad"! Then when he went to pick up his other front foot that's when all hell broke loose! He fired at Chris with his hind foot and almost nailed Chris in the head. So Chris had a "come to Jesus talk" with Sandy which in my opinion did not help. Normally a horse will move away from the shoer but Sandy was moving towards Chris like he wanted to run him down. Chris finally finished the other front foot. We still had the hind feet to go! He tried picking up his hind foot and Sandy was kicking & jumping to get away from him. Chris couldn't stop at that point because Sandy would have won. If a horse knows he can get away with something than that will set the mood every time he needs attention to his feet. Chris had to follow through with showing Sandy who was boss. He finally was able to pick up his hind feet and hold it. When I first rescued Sandy from the neighbor she told me Sandy was trained to do the parade marching gait. I have heard how a non-gaited horse is trained to do that and it can be very cruel! Beating the horses legs with chains is involved! My suspicious is if this was how Sandy was trained he will be ultra sensitive when his legs/feet are involved.
Here are pictures taken today of Sandy. Compare them to the pictures on the right side of the blog called "Condition prior to rescue" to see all the weight he has gained. He just has some filling out to do in his spine & hips and he'll be looking like a normal horse!

Rescue Ride
Unfortanelty, the ride has some bittersweet memories! The next day my friend's horse, Dusty, coliced & died! The ride was not the cause of his colic though. It was so neat to watch him take us through those trails as he was a very experienced trail horse! He was a beautiful, athletic TN Walker! His owner, Alicia, will greatly miss her companion of 10 years!
Rest in Peace Dusty! You will always have a special place in my heart!
